Antique’s annual festival is called Binirayan and it literally means, “where they landed”. It recalls the story of ten Bornean datus who were led by Datu Puti and Datu Sumakwel. In the early 15th century, they fled from the oppressive rule of Sultan Makatunaw and their subsequent settlement in Panay. The Binirayan Festival is where Antiqueños re-enact the event through a pageant on the beaches of Malandog, Hamtic.

The Binirayan Festival is celebrated annually and it has progressed from a raucous revelry to a meaningful, although scripted street theater and is highlighted by several features: Biray, a fluvial parade, Bugal kang Antique Awards, Lin-ay kang Antique, Daigon Contest, etc. The festival showcases local finery, and it is a festival to see and be a part of. The festival aims to boost tourism and attract visitors to the province of Antique.

Bondoc's Viewing Deck Bar and Resto

I went to San Jose, Antique again yesterday to visit Papang and be a day earlier for my preliminary exams earlier today. I arrived around 4PM so I had plenty of time to waste after visiting Papang. While waiting for my cousin Meg to arrive, I decided to text and call some of my pretty cousins to accompany me to Bondoc’s Viewing Deck Bar and Resto. We went there right after we visited Papang, Lolo Mamang and Lolo Papang.

Here I go again. Last weekend I went back to Papang’s hometown once again for a family gathering. Me and my cousins went to the beach – again, of course. Since childhood, I have never passed a chance to go to the beach. Not only is it a bonding experience for me and my cousins but it is also a chance for me to take a deep in the clear and clean beaches of San Jose, Antique. So like the last time, I didn’t forget to bring my camera to document our beach bumming. Although I wasn’t able to experience the deep in the sea like I always do, I had the sunset to make me happy!

So here are more photos of Antique’s beautiful sunset. Hopefully with my posts I am able to entice people to come and visit Antique. You will not regret it! Enjoy!
