It’s been a while since I shared something about my yoga practice. But my pursuit of living a truly healthy lifestyle has not stopped. I will never give up yoga because it is now a part of my life. And it has made my life profoundly joyful and peaceful. I recently started going to the gym and working out. Add working out at the gym to your yoga practice and it’s a perfect combination!

So today I would like to share some tips that would apply to all yoga poses. These tips I’ve learned from doing yoga, my yoga instructor, readings, and through practicing as well. I’ll provide some advice on form and these will maximize the benefits of your practice sessions. Move into the poses slowly and deliberately. And don’t forget to breathe!

On Breathing and Visualization

Wow! I can’t believe so many things has happened since my last blog post! Some of them are: I am now a proud college graduate(!), I have travelled to a number of new places like Punta Bulata in Negros Occidental and some out of the way places in Capiz, met lots of new friends, experienced huge career growth, made major decisions in my love life(I’m engaged!), and a lot more! :D

Truth is, I still have a lot of blog backlogs. But like I said, I will be tackling them all slowly but surely.

Anyway, this morning when I woke up I felt this itch to blog. Today’s blog post is about breathing and visualization. I’d like to share all the things I have learned from my teachers, my readings and of course through my experiences as well.

On Breathing
All of us breathe. We usually view the rhythm of our breathing as automatic. We are seldom aware of the quality of our breathing and tend to just take partial, shallow breaths using only the upper part of our lungs. We often hold our breath or take light, quick breaths, especially when we are tense, nervous, or fearful, without being conscious of it.

So now, try the following simple breathing exercise: Consciously, take a few short, shallow and irregular breaths. Be aware of how you feel. Chances are you will feel anxious, uneasy, and ungrounded.

Developing the Habit of Being Quiet

Noise. I just don’t like noise. Quiet – this is why I am always thankful that I work at home. Actually it’s one of the major reasons why I love working at home. I calm myself by simply being quiet. Being quiet can be difficult in our stimulation-filled world. Just think of all the noise that surrounds many of us every moment. I used to wake up every work day to the noise of an alarm clock. This was when I worked at that call center.

Some people turn on the TV in the morning as they prepare for work. And think about this, if we even take the time to eat, do we even have any idea what our food tastes like because we are busy listening to or thinking about other things while we eat? And then we get in our cars, or ride public transportation. We hear the noise of the radio or the music on our headphones. We are surrounded by people constantly talking. Most of us might work with the noise of machines (computers, telephones, copy machines, printers, on and on) and of course people. And then we return home the same way. Instead of being relieved for a little quiet, we can’t stand it and turn on the TV for company and noise again. If we live with other people, we talk to them. This goes on seven days a week! No wonder why we’re exhausted and no wonder why we have no idea what’s going on inside of ourselves.

Eskina Guapa – the newest facial care center in Iloilo opened its doors last December 1st at the 2nd Floor of the B & C Square Building, Corner Iznart & Solis Streets, Iloilo City (in front of LandBank of the Phil.).

I am so excited for Eskina Guapa Facial Care Center because the only person I trust to take care of my “beloved face“(because I am vain like that) works there now! And of course the owner – who is from Oton by the way – is awesome as well. I am so happy for them! :)

Facial Treatments at Eskina Guapa are only at Php200.00 and that’s alreadyfor 3 sessions. And for every 1 referral you get a FREE facial! Oh yes I am so telling all my friends to go there now so all my facial treatments will be free. LOL!

A friend told me that she is always having trouble falling asleep so I shared with her some videos and music that I listen to that helps me have a calm, restful sleep. Like I told my friend –  just clear your mind while listening to this, STOP THINKING/WORRYING, and sleep will come in no time. Oh and try taking long deep breaths first and then later on just breathe naturally. :)
