I first heard the haunting voice of Ferns Tosco when she sang “Island Called Boracay” during a food fest night in Kalibo, Aklan. That time I was with the company of the Iloilo City Hall Press Corp, we were on a Lakbay Aral with DOT, touring half of Panay Island. We were rediscovering the beautiful tourism spots of Antique, Aklan and Roxas.

Jay-Ar, Ferns & Nash

That fateful night in Kalibo, I was captivated by Ferns’ guitar playing and beautiful singing, even more so than the food actually. Ferns sang a mix of 80s and 90s hits but the song that stuck in my mind is her very own composition “Island Called Boracay”. Unfortunately she only sang one set that night. I learned later on that she had to go to Boracay because she  also had a gig scheduled there at Bom Bom Bar and Pat’s Creek Bar.

After that night I resolved to find out who that amazing singer was. I didn’t know her name yet only her song “Island Called Boracay”. When I got home after the tour I tried to google her song but I didn’t find a trace of it – which is actually good because that means that no one has pirated her songs yet ( and I hope no one will ever do so of course). I only got a break when I found a feature article by Choose Philippines about her,  her song and her band. In that article I learned that the owner of ‘the haunting voice’ is Ferns Tosco, a singer based in Boracay Island. I immediately looked her up on Facebook, then messaged and added her, within minutes she accepted my friend request. She was really nice and I told her then that I heard her sing when we went to Kalibo last June. The next day I messaged her again and asked her if she could grant me an interview. She said Yes! So that’s how I got to meet Ferns and her talented bandmates – Nash Tabay and Jay-Ar Pague.

Nonoy Tim went home so I had the day to bond with Monicay again. Went to Spa Riviera for a back scrub and body massage. Then I met up with Monicay at SM Delgado. Went to SM City, had lunch at KFC and Monica got her hair trimmed. Then Mimay was there! Weeee! Of course gurl talk commenced but Mimay had to go because she was with her sister and nephew. So Nicay and I went to B’Code to try out their crepes and pizza. The place had a great ambiance, it was actually relaxing and the view was nice. Maybe because it was a Sunday and no teenagers were around. Haha! The food was satisfactory. The crepes were so-so but the pizza was awesome! The prices were reasonable and affordable. And the waiter who served us was really nice and accommodating so we’re definitely going back there again. I will bring Tim there because I know that he’ll like the pizza with it’s green toppings. :D

A Happy Weekend!

I had an awesome weekend! And this post is so late. LOL. Last Saturday August 15th was the first meet-up of the Iloilo Bloggers. We had lunch at Fort San Pedro and discussed the future of our group. We elected a new set of officers and planned for future events and meet-ups. Congrats to Claire – our new President! The lunch and meeting was fun because everyone really had the best sense of humor. You should hear Efren and Junelle laugh! It was also great to see Marcos again and I’m glad to meet Antoine Greg in person. We are also recruiting Ronald to become a member of the group as well as some of Junnjun‘s friends! :D

To know more about the meet-up you can go here and for pictures you can click here.

And last Sunday, Tim went home to Kabankalan so I had the chance to hang out with my best pals Monica and Amy. We had lunch and coffee. I haven’t seen Amy since we went to Guimaras in May so we had so much stuff to ‘talk’ about. LOL. Monica and I meet often so I don’t miss her. Joke lang Nix!harhar!

I have been wanting to meet fellow bloggers ever since I became a member of  IloiloBloggers.com. And last Saturday – July 4th at the Casino Filipino PAGCOR Bacolod I was able to meet my fellow Ilonggo bloggers! And not only that – we got to network with other bloggers from Bacolod and the Negros Island too. Add to that meeting Ms. Janette Toral in person! The event we attended was the DigitalFilipino Club & Bloggers Meet-Up which was hosted by Casino Filipino PAGCOR Bacolod.  Obviously it’s the first  bloggers networking event I have attended so I was curious what the turn out would be. It was a huge success because Casino Filipino Bacolod provided us with a delicious dinner, beer and an awesome band! Of course the freebies was one of the best parts of the night. Most of us were lucky to bring home cool stuffs given away by PAGCOR and some of us won in the raffle too. We also got to learn about the current status of the Philippine e-commerce and the blogosphere  from Ms. Janette Toral. Some online social network users and business owners attended as well to learn a thing or two about blogging from the seasoned bloggers and SEO professionals. Hope they learned something from the event and be inspired to make a blog of their own too!

Miss Janette Toral encouraged us to participate on the following activities of the DigitalFilipino Club:

And guess what guys! I have finally proven that my online friends are real! Weeeeee! Which means it really is possible to make relationships online and of course nurture it by having the proper online ethics and attitude. So yes I finally got to meet Junelle of Pinay SEO (she owns a lot of blogs), Marcos of Explore Iloilo, Junnjun of JunntrekkerDonald of Don_Ser, and Mommy Ruby of Pinay Mommy Online! It was also nice meeting Marie Claire of Maditang Pinay and Enrico Dee of Byahilo – I am a frequent visitor of their blogs.  And it was nice to see Ace again who was  a co-worker from Callbox and Tim’s classmate.  Tim got to meet his college teacher Neil Alado as well. And it was really cool to meet other bloggers from Bacolod too. Thank you for making us feel welcome guys, after all it was your meet-up not ours but still you welcomed us. We really appreciate it. Too bad Efren, Bernie and the other Iloilo Bloggers weren’t able to go. But once we have our own meet-up we’ll have fun too.

I have proven to myself that blogging is not boring because of this kind of events. As bloggers we can also  share our lives offline! I am hoping to meet more Ilonggo bloggers on our very own upcoming meet-up this August. It’s time we get ourselves organized. Hopefully everyone will cooperate and share their time. Thank you very much to Ms. Janette Toral, the DigitalFilipino Club and Casino Filipino PAGCOR Bacolod for hosting the networking event last Saturday. This will pave our way to having our own events here in Iloilo and I know it’s going to be the same in Bacolod. Hopefully we could get sponsors here. So until then see you all online and until the next event!

Here’s a glimpse of the event:

boracay_palm_trees1 I’m writing this post just for the key word and see if how many people will stumble upon my blog if I rant about Boracay!

Anyway,we’re going to the beach! And not just the beach but the best beach in the Philippines! We’re actually going to Boracay! It’s the place to really hang out and chill, have fun with friends because it’s bursting with life! Just what I need! LOL

I will be going with Sev (my brother), Dianne (Sev’s girl and of course Tim (who else?!).

The best thing about my work is that you can do it anywhere as long as you have a laptop or computer with internet connection. So I’ll be working while vacationing. Not bad. I”m thinking of it as having a vacation while working not the other way around. Haha.

Although I’m not sure if I could write once I’m there. Go figure!

I’m so excited! Right now I’m just finishing all my tasks for the day so I won’t have to worry or think about anything later. Peace of mind is the key to a peaceful and satisfying vacation.

2 more hours to go and I’ll be gone!

Goodbye Grey’s Anatomy, I’ll be back!

We’re gonna have fun fun fun!

And this is completely off topic but I just don’t like people who doesn’t like Taylor Swift. Geesh I’m such a kid. LOL.

Well I’m out! Will blog about our vacation when I come back home and take some photos so I could make all you guys jealous and therefore make you all go on vacation too!

On Saturday will be Mamang’s birthday and we might go to Punta Villa too so we have to be back before that. And on Sunday Manny Pacquiao will make us proud again and we will be watching the fight at SM City Cinema for more fun fun fun!

I have a great life don’t I? ;)
